Regiment of Artillery commemorates 199th Gunners’ Day with wreath-laying ceremony at NWM

The Regiment of Artillery, the Indian Army’s second-largest combat arm, marked its 199th Gunners’ Day with celebrations in New Delhi on Sunday. The date holds historic importance, as it was on this day in 1827 that the first Indian artillery unit—5 (Bombay) Mountain Battery, then equipped with 2.5-inch guns—was raised. The unit continues its legacy today as part of the 57 Field Regiment.

Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi, along with all ranks of the Army, extended greetings and best wishes to serving personnel, veterans, and families of the Regiment on this occasion.

As part of the commemoration, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at the National War Memorial, where Director General of Artillery and Senior Colonel Commandant Lieutenant General Adosh Kumar, accompanied by serving officers and veterans, paid tributes to fallen soldiers on behalf of the Regiment.

Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant General Adosh Kumar highlighted that the Regiment of Artillery is advancing steadily on the path of modernization, guided by the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
